Local Area – Rotherham, South Yorkshire

Rotherham is in South Yorkshire, in the North of England. It touches its larger neighbour Sheffield but isn’t too far from the cities of Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham. All are within commutable distances.

Rotherham has always been a desirable area in which to live and work due to its reasonable cost of housing and living. It has an array of facilities and amenities that would rival much larger towns and cities but offers a closeness and friendliness that only a provincial town can offer. There’s something for everyone.

Amenities and Sports Facilities

There are four new state of the art sport facilities currently undergoing construction around the town to complement existing centres around the town. Other recreational facilities include the parks (city parks such as Clifton park, country parks include Rother valley & Thrybergh – a green flag winner in 2006) and not forgetting the surrounding countryside. The town itself is less densely populated than many other towns and cities in South Yorkshire with many ‘green’ districts offer mature tree lined streets such a Moorgate. Further out of town there’s the Peak District National Park being less than 30 minutes drive away.

Transport

The area is served by excellent local bus services and the city centre can be reached within a 15 minute journey time of any area of the town. There are further coach and bus links from the centre of town. The area is probably the best served of all the towns and cities in the South Yorkshire area by the major road network as all areas of Rotherham have easy access to the M1, M18 and the A1(M) motorways, providing quick access to the north or south of the region.

Shopping

Meadowhall Shopping Centre, one of Europe’s largest indoor shopping centres, is situated at Junction 34 of the M1, and includes over 270 stores. There is also the Lakeside Village which offers a range of 45 high street stores with prices offering up to 60% off RRP. Central Rotherham also provides a wide variety of shopping facilities, such as a traditional town centre and excellent indoor and outdoor Market
